The history of the International Damask Network
About ten years ago (on 17th April 1997 to be precise) Mr. Maurice Piot, living in the Swiss village of Gland near Lausanne, took the initiative to bring together Damask weavers from all over the world. As an enthusiastic promoter for Damask and Damask (hand)weaving he also took the initiative to publish a quarterly Damask Newsletter. Over the years this Newsletter gained momentum and grew from simple black and white copied pages into a nice and colorful quarterly (now sent by e-mail to all members).
Since mid 2007 we issue the Newsletters in three languages, viz. English, German and Swedish/Danish and since Winter 2008 we had to go back to just an English version because of lack of translators..
At this moment approx. 100 weavers are a member of the Network. They share their experiences, inspire each other and participate in international exhibitions of their work. All this with a lot of initiative, motivation and persuation of mr. Piot during the first 10 years of our existence.
This truly international group has members in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the USA, Sweden and Switzerland. The membership is totally free of charge. The only request is that members are prepared to send information or an article about damask weaving at least once in two years and want to introduce themselves and tell us what they are weaving.. http://home.hccnet.nl/l.diepenbroek/
